This Year (2010) business will be about getting back to 'business as usual', but what does 'business as usual' look like now that greed has been replaced with generosity?
Well for a start the the goal posts have been moved significantly by the word 'sustainability'. In every possible meaning of the word, 'sustainability', is the way forward. Companies are required to more than just embrace the notion. To truly prosper, they will have to display greater transparency and honesty, start having quality conversations as opposed to one-way advertising, empower stakeholders and incorporate them in their culture and and find focus in specialisation.
Inspiration and passion are the key. Looking for both inside and outside a companies immediate culture will be the key keeping business on a steady path forward. Attracting new business will come not from doing what you have always done, but by being distinguishable from the competition. It is no longer about finding that one good idea, but rather implementing lots of simple small ones that add up to permanent cultural shift.
As always, the future is about doing things differently, but driven by changing consumer wants, needs and now beliefs. It's time to listen and learn from those around you that you think are already mirroring today's more diverse, chaotic, networked society, and then help them help you.
